India’s PCBL: Carbon Black Volumes Fall While Q2 Profit Rises

India’s PCBL Chemical presented its second-quarter FY2027 update on November 2. Consolidated revenue was about ₹2,474 crore and profit after tax about ₹74 crore. The notable carbon black story lies beneath those headline financial figures: sales tonnage declined while company-wide earnings increased.

Year-on-year consolidated revenue rose about 14% and profit after tax about 20%. The investor presentation, reported by Investing.com, showed total carbon black sales of 134,180 tonnes versus 161,728 tonnes in the comparable quarter. Company-wide revenue includes activities beyond a single grade or carbon black category and should not be read as a per-tonne price.

Domestic sales were reported at 92,843 tonnes and export sales at 41,337 tonnes. Management pointed to higher logistics costs and more selective participation in lower-margin export markets. A decision to favor realization over volume can improve the sales mix without implying that every regional market has tightened.

The producer is also advancing specialty black and conductive carbon materials alongside tire and rubber grades. Pigment users in coatings, polymers and masterbatch need different performance criteria from tire compounders: blackness, dispersion, resin compatibility and batch consistency matter as much as nominal particle size.

For a related product inquiry, see Gohar Farayand’s P30 black pigment page. This does not imply equivalence to a PCBL product; qualification depends on technical specifications and testing in the customer’s own formulation.

Analysis

Profit growth against lower tonnage illustrates the importance of product mix, margin discipline and chosen destinations. A single producer’s results cannot establish a global carbon black spot price or total market value.
