Michelin plans to make the Asian debut of a tire containing 75% renewable and recycled materials at the China International Import Expo in Shanghai, scheduled for November 5–10, 2026. China Daily’s November 2 report identifies recovered carbon black among the materials in that tire.
The 75% figure describes the combined renewable and recycled content of the tire, not the proportion of recovered carbon black. The article also names bio-based synthetic rubber, rice-husk-derived silica and recycled steel. It does not disclose each material’s individual share, the carbon black grade or a product price.
The announcement reflects tire makers’ interest in diversifying material sources and increasing circular content. Yet including recovered carbon black in one tire formulation does not establish a universal drop-in replacement for every rubber compound. Consistent properties, dispersion, reinforcing behavior and impurity control still require application-specific testing.
The Shanghai expo opens on November 5, so the tire had not yet been publicly presented there on the publication date. For the carbon black value chain, the story points to potential demand for carbon materials from varied origins alongside continued demand for industrial grades with repeatable specifications.
Analysis
As circular carbon materials gain use, competition may depend increasingly on verified performance rather than price per kilogram alone. Buyers of conventional grades such as N550 still need technical data and compound trials. This report concerns Michelin’s tire and does not imply that a Gohar Farayand grade is approved as a direct substitute in it.
