India’s wholesale inflation accelerated to 11.39% in September 2026, above market expectations and up from 9.92% in August. Reuters reported that wholesale crude petroleum and natural gas prices jumped 57.32% year on year, while fuel and power inflation reached 25.85%. Chemicals, rubber and plastic products were among the groups contributing to the increase.
The data matter for India’s carbon black market because production depends on heavy aromatic oils and other refinery-derived feedstocks. Higher oil and energy prices can raise feedstock, steam, electricity and logistics costs at the same time. However, the wholesale price index is not a direct carbon black quotation and should not be treated as a confirmed product-price increase.
Analysis of this news
For Indian producers, the 57.32% rise in crude petroleum and natural gas prices is likely to increase working-capital needs and pricing risk. Plants buying feedstock under short-term contracts may feel the impact earlier, while lower-cost inventory can delay it. The commercial outcome depends on how quickly producers can pass costs to tyre makers, export customers and specialty buyers.
If domestic input costs rise faster than export-market prices, Indian suppliers’ export margins could narrow. Conversely, simultaneous supply disruptions elsewhere may give producers more room to adjust prices. Buyers should separate feedstock formulas, freight charges and quotation validity when comparing offers.
The next useful indicators are carbon black feedstock oil prices, refinery rates, tyre-production data and price notices from major producers. The inflation release is a clear warning of cost pressure, but it is not by itself a forecast of the final carbon black price.
