New carbon black for engineering plastics puts jetness and dispersion in focus

Source date: 2026-10-13. Orion introduced PRINTEX chroma 450 BEADS for engineered plastics. A buyer’s guide to comparing jetness, surface finish and processing claims.

What was launched?

On October 13, 2026, Orion announced PRINTEX chroma 450 BEADS, a carbon black for engineered plastics. The company describes high jetness and a balance of surface smoothness and dispersion. Its announcement says the grade is made in Cologne, Germany, and has EU food-contact approval. That approval concerns Orion’s specific material and applicable uses; it cannot be transferred to another pigment grade.

Analysis

Powder darkness alone does not determine the appearance or suitability of a molded engineering-plastic part. Dispersion in the polymer, mixing conditions, melt viscosity, final surface, mechanical properties and regulatory requirements matter. Compare candidate grades in a controlled formulation, test molded samples and then confirm the result in a production trial. For food-contact applications, obtain documentation for the exact material and intended use rather than infer compliance from another supplier’s announcement.

Practical material selection

For a Gohar option focused on deep black and tinting, review P-90 and request a test in your polymer. This is not a claim of equivalence or food-contact approval. View product P90.
