TDD-Global reported on October 29 that its Chinese carbon black index for October 28 stood at 9,460.5, unchanged from the previous trading day. The market report describes sluggish new orders and downstream resistance to elevated offers. This compiled index is not a per-tonne quotation for N330, N550 or a black pigment on an export basis.
A steady index does not mean a steady transaction price
Coal-tar feedstock was quoted at CNY 5,510 per tonne in Shandong and CNY 5,550 in both Shanxi and Hebei. Sample carbon black plant operating rates rose slightly, while tyre-sector demand and fresh transactions remained subdued. Expensive feedstock, a modest supply increase and cautious purchasing can widen the gap between asking prices and accepted deals.
An index helps buyers read direction, but a usable offer must specify grade, technical requirements, packaging, delivery point, volume, currency and freight. Industrial rubber blacks differ in compound behaviour; a colouring pigment for masterbatch or coatings also requires application testing for dispersion and colour strength.
For near-term procurement, record quotation validity, deliverable volume and freight alongside price. Any change in Chinese new-order negotiations can reach other markets with a lag and depends on contractual terms. One flat index does not establish a uniform price path for all grades.
Gohar Farayand presents black pigment P-30 among its manufactured products and supplies industrial N330 through trading. Share the intended application, specifications and order size for a grade and quotation review. The reported Chinese index is neither Gohar’s selling price nor a universal grade price.
Analysis
A flat index combined with weak new business indicates caution rather than a settled transaction price. Buyers should compare feedstock and tyre demand with grade specifications and delivered cost.
