The second global story examines an Indian plasma technology project pursuing hydrogen and solid carbon production while remaining at the prototype stage.
Two outputs on a technology development path
YourStory reported on October 13 that India’s Hypersonic Technologies is developing plasma pyrolysis to turn methane into hydrogen and solid carbon. The technology remains at prototype stage, with pigment applications also being explored.
Gohar analysis: a process is not yet a qualified grade
For the black pigment industry, news of a production route differs from validation of a commercial grade. The next questions concern material consistency and performance in a finished formulation. Our interpretation is that the value of such routes becomes clearer through repeatable application results. Until then, producing solid carbon alone should not be treated as evidence of equivalence to established carbon blacks or direct substitution.
